Lumiere stands as a beacon of excellence in health and wellness services, dedicated to empowering individuals and communities across Fiji. Founded by Uraia Ratu a registered nurse with over 19 years of work experience both locally and abroad, due to his exposure, he identified gaps within the health and social sector and started Lumiere in the hopes of bridging this gap by offering a comprehensive range of healthcare training courses, utilizing innovative teaching methodologies and practical community engagement initiatives to elevate healthcare and social standards and create sustainable livelihoods.

Our Story
Uraia Ratu, founder of Lumiere Academy, embodies resilience, vision, and dedication to community empowerment. Uraia hails from Saolo, Wainunu, Bua, with maternal ties to Tonia, Verata, Tailevu, he was brought up by his grandmother and his upbringing was shaped by strong family values and perseverance. Inspired by the determination of his late father, who rose from humble beginnings to become an executive chef and entrepreneur, Uraia forged his own path in healthcare.
A graduate of the Fiji School of Nursing, Uraia’s career includes extensive experience as an emergency room nurse in Bermuda, where he also earned NCLEX certification for Florida. Witnessing the challenges faced by indigenous Fijian communities, Uraia returned to Fiji in 2019 to address critical healthcare gaps.
As the founder of Lumiere Academy, Fiji’s first iTaukei-owned healthcare training institution, Uraia has set a new benchmark for health education. Recognized by the Fiji Nursing Council, the academy provides professional development for nurses across the country. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Nurse Practitioner, Uraia continues to lead transformative change in Fiji’s healthcare landscape.
